Xingchao Chen

co-Principal Investigator: Xingchao Chen

Assistant Professor of Meteorology, The Pennsylvania State University

Dr. Xingchao Chen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science at The Pennsylvania State University, where he also serves as the Assistant Director of the Penn State Center for Advanced Data Assimilation and Predictability Techniques (ADAPT). His research focuses on data assimilation, tropical meteorology, and mesoscale meteorology. A significant part of his work involves developing innovative data assimilation techniques to improve the analysis and forecasting of tropical weather systems. He also explores the interactions between tropical convection, tropical cyclones, and large-scale atmospheric flows, as well as the influence of underlying ocean and land surfaces. His research employs high-resolution numerical models, remote sensing data, and theoretical analysis tools to address these science questions. He earned his Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from Nanjing University and currently serves as an editor for several peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Chen is a member of the multi-university Consortium for Advanced Data Assimilation Research and Education (CADRE).
