Yunji Zhang

co-Principal Investigator: Yunji Zhang

Assistant Professor of Meteorology, The Pennsylvania State University

Dr. Yunji Zhang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science at the Pennsylvania State University. He is also the Assistant Director of the Penn State Center for Advanced Data Assimilation and Predictability Techniques (ADAPT), and affiliated with the Alliance for Education, Science, Engineering and Design with Africa (AESEDA). Dr. Zhang examines the dynamics and predictability of convectively driven severe weather and associated hazards, and how to enhance our capability to accurately predict them and better mitigate them by assimilating readily available, under-utilized observations. His research group applies high-resolution computer modeling, ensemble data assimilation and forecasting, and remote sensing to mesoscale meteorology. Dr. Zhang earned his B.S. and Ph.D. from Peking University in China before joining Penn State. Dr. Zhang is a member of the multi-university Consortium for Advanced Data Assimilation Research and Education (CADRE).
