CADRE research thrusts are aimed at gaining scientific understanding and developing effective methodologies that can ultimately be transitioned from Research To Operations (i.e., R2O), meaning that the research outcomes from CADRE will directly contribute to continuing advancements in NOAA forecast capabilities across a broad range of Earth System applications.

It is therefore important for operational forecasting challenges and priorities to guide the CADRE research thrusts to best serve the needs of the operational community (i.e., Operations to Research, or O2R).  This is accomplished through close collaboration between CADRE research groups and NOAA scientists.

Together, the R2O and O2R efforts within CADRE promote a positively reinforcing cycle of R2O2R.
